We are one of the highest Baptist churches in England.

We are an historic church founded in 1773 by John Taylor and his brother Dan, who founded the New Connexion for Baptists who believed salvation is for all.  The church was a centre for local Baptists, founding the churches at Clayton, Sandy Lane, Denholme and Tetley Street.  Its heyday was at the turn of last century when the Black Dyke Mill was flourishing in the village.

Today we are a small, mainly elderly congregation who are proud of our heritage but value more living the gospel today.  We are a supportive community who are very welcoming to visitors.

We meet at 10.30 every Sunday.

There is a variety of worship, including communion and all-age services as well as an occasional joint service with the other churches in the village.  We have some children who come regularly, and more engaging activities are organised for them for the sermon part of the service when it's not all-age worship.

Our church life is rooted in our belief that God's love is for all, we affirm and encourage each other, work together to express our faith in today's world and actively offer invitation to all.

During the week there is a

·      Carer and Toddler group in term time on Mondays from 9.30 – 11.

·      Support Centre, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10.30 – 3, providing simple entertainment and a very good lunch for elderly clients who like a bit of company and appreciate having a meal cooked for them

·      Coffee Shop every Friday 10 – 11, for those who like homemade cake and a chat with friend.
