Telling the Story of Jesus

 Dear Friends

This is an invitation to be part of an exciting development in Yorkshire

Through the YBA Mission Strategy – Living it out – we seek to encourage discipleship that is rooted in the core of our faith and expressed confidently in our communities. We believe that the role of the YBA is to offer practical encouragement to our churches drawing on the growing relationship we have together.

One part of “Living it out” is Commissioned Ministries…

The YBA sets up special pieces of work to have practical input into a priority area of mission.  Instead of calling someone from outside to do this we invite a Baptist minister or staff member from one of our churches to carry out this work, by being released by their church for 3 days a month for 2 years. The church that teams up in this way will be paid £3,000 per year. Each Commissioned Ministry will run for two years.

We believe that Commissioned Ministries achieve 4 things:

We are launching our third Commissioned Ministry on: Evangelism – telling the story of Jesus.

We are looking for applications by the 12 September 2008 and for the person to start on this work at the beginning of October 2008.

This builds upon the success of the first Commissioned Ministry on children and faith which has listened to the experiences of 24 of our churches and run events attended by over 110 children’s workers, and our second Commissioned Ministry which is enabling 7 different churches to explore the Lifeshapes programme from Philadelphia Church, Sheffield and offer ideas for us all.

Please apply by filling in the brief application form which is below and writing 1,000 words on “What are the main opportunities and challenges for a local church in telling the story of Jesus?”

Obviously the local church needs to be committed to this partnership and this is reflected in the application form. The criteria paper below gives more information; please give me a call to talk it through if you are interested.
