Pensions Roadshows

Dean ThorpeYBA Treasurer Dean Thorpe is encouraging churches which are members of the Baptist Pension Scheme Defined Benefits (DB) Scheme to attend one of the Pensions Roadshows, which have been put together by the BUGB Pensions Employers Group.

Two roadshows will be presented by Dean in the YBA area - on Saturday October 14th, at 9am at the Blackley Centre (Thompson Jones Hall), Elland, and on Tuesday, November 7th, at 7pm at Wakefield Baptist Church.

They are designed for treasurers, deacons, trustees and ministers and will inform you about what is happening to address the current deficit in the scheme and the potential impact it may have on your church.

They will share with churches information on the 2016 actuarial valuation; dealing with individual church pension debts; the new draft employer debt regulations and what the Employers Group calls, ‘a family solution for a family problem’.

“The roadshows are very important because we want to hear from churches their views on what we are doing to help them, what more could we be doing as well as trying to ensure every church involved understands the situation we all face,” says Group Moderator Malcolm Broad.

Association Administrator Debbie Gamble adds: “If you are planning to attend and haven’t done so, please send an email to the YBA office with your church name and numbers of people attending. This is to help with practical arrangements.”
