Greetings from our New Regional Minister

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Clive BurnardIt is good to be home in Yorkshire and I am excited to take up this new role in serving you all for Jesus.
My fellow Regional Ministers, Graham and Mary, and the whole YBA Team (and the four churches, which I have already had the joy of visiting), have given Marilyn and I such a warm welcome.

We are settling well into our new home in north Sheffield. Please pray for ‘Bill’, the lovely self-employed plumber, who came to give us an estimate for work in the manse. We had a long conversation about faith over a cup of tea and prayed with him. We will see what the future holds, but I’m reminded of the fascination folks have with Jesus and of those who are happy to share their faith.

We all have plenty of real challenges ahead - but equally, we all have so many wonderful and exciting opportunities in today’s world. God Himself promises to be with us, enabling us in this great adventure.
My first visit was with folks from churches who had gathered for a learning communities event at Hillsborough Baptist Church (great venue, warm hospitality). Kez Robinson, our Mission Enabler, hosted the day and the inspiring Neil Hudson, of LICC (London Institute of Contemporary Christianity) empowered and encouraged us in ‘Whole Life Discipleship’; a fruitful strategy for equipping us all across Yorkshire in mission.
Neil set before us an achievable vision to live out and share our faith simply and effectively on our ‘Frontlines’, by growing as disciples of Christ. If you are interested in finding out more please contact Kez.
The following day I enjoyed two harvest services with great teaching. It has certainly been a breathlessly wonderful start, since October 1st. As well as serving Huddersfield and South Yorkshire churches, my role in the YBA includes serving all member churches in encouraging, enabling and inspiring them in mission, and also to serve our larger YBA congregations, wherever they are in the region. I have served Jesus elsewhere in the world, and it is great to be back in ‘God’s own county’!

Clive's induction took place at The Well Baptist Church in Sheffield on October 20th.

More about Clive ...

Clive's last role was as Senior Minister at Mutley Baptist Church, Plymouth. He brings with him significant experience of both local church leadership, and of service in the wider denomination and ecumenically. Throughout his ministry, Clive has been involved in different aspects of Association life as well as engaging in various local expressions of Churches Together.

He has served on the Baptist Union Council and Baptist World Alliance as well as being part of the steering group for the BUGB “Conference for Pastors of Larger Churches”. With experience in church planting and evangelism, a commitment to mentoring and training leaders and teams, and experience of teaching, Clive brings a heart to serve, encourage, inspire and support YBA churches.

The move North is a return to his Yorkshire roots as Clive’s early years were spent in Scarborough and he attended university during the late 1970s in Sheffield. Clive came to faith in Christ at the age of 32.

A call to train for ministry led to study at Moorlands College during the early 1990s; his MTh in Applied Theology and DMin were completed through Spurgeon’s College. Clive’s first pastorate was with Christchurch Baptist Church, Dorset from 1992 until 2007 where his first role was as part-time Assistant Pastor subsequently being called as Senior Pastor.
