Honouring Faith: Trinity Church Rawdon at Buckstone Rock

As Monica wrote, in the early 18th century, a time when non-conformist worship was forbidden by law, courageous believers gathered in secret beneath the shelter of Buckstone Rock. Risking persecution, these early Baptists held their Sabbath services in this hidden sanctuary, driven by a steadfast faith.
Today, the congregation at Trinity Church Rawdon continues this powerful tradition. Each year, they come together at Buckstone Rock to remember and honour those faithful worshippers of over 300 years ago who bravely gathered in this very place.
This remarkable stone has stood as a silent witness through centuries of faith, perseverance, and community. It was also a cherished preaching spot for John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, who used Buckstone Rock as a place to inspire and gather followers.
Our annual meeting here is more than just a tribute. It is a celebration of religious liberty, a gift won through the sacrifices of many before us. It is also a heartfelt reminder to pray for Christians around the world who still do not have the freedom to worship openly.
This year, thanks to the generous support of Rawdon Golf, Lawn Tennis and Padel Club, our annual pilgrimage was held on Sunday 13th July, a moment to connect past and present, faith and freedom.
