Inter Ethnic Church
As part of our vision (to grow disciples by multiplying healthy churches across Yorkshire’, through planting, revitalising and reimagining) we have a deep desire to promote justice and to encourage diversity.
In 2024 we launched ‘From Every Nation: Building an Inter-Ethnic Church’ by hosting day events and a learning community. This web page serves as a place to learn from others on that journey from across the YBA, discover upcoming events and find resources.
On Saturday 27th April, more than 100 people from 20 YBA churches gathered at Wakefield Baptist Church for “From Every Nation: Building an Inter-Ethnic Church”.
This first-of-its-kind conference for the YBA, brought together voices, worship, and stories that reflected the growing ethnic and cultural diversity across our Association.
Led by Regional Minister Nike Adebajo and featuring keynote speaker Revd Joe Kapolyo, the day invited churches to move beyond multi-ethnic attendance towards truly inter-ethnic community — where every culture is valued, integrated, and celebrated as part of God’s design.
With vibrant worship in many languages, thought-provoking teaching, shared global food, and heartfelt fellowship, the atmosphere was alive with joy and unity.
As delegates sang, learned, and laughed together, a vision emerged of a Church in Yorkshire that more fully reflects heaven on earth — every tribe and tongue worshipping the Lamb.
The day left a clear mark of hope, challenge, and anticipation for the Spirit-shaped future of the people of God in our region.

Didcot BC has implemented two excellent responses in their aim to become intercultural. First, they have appointed a Deacon dedicated to the task. Out of this came their response to language issues which is what the article focuses on. It has been a game changer for them.
