An Inspiring Morning at Ebenezer Baptist Church

Leoné and Alex spent time recently with Ebenezer Baptist Church for a vision and review day.

Rev John Gleghorn writes:

What an inspiring morning we spent with Alex and Leone encouraging boldness in the way we approached our mission.

We debunked the myth that we needed to be extroverts, recognising the people that led us to Christ were very much like us. We used Biblical examples of some of the different styles used by God to draw people to him. We saw ourselves and identified the culture of the church and affirmed that’s okay. All the time we reinforced that God likes and needs all-sorts.

We practised short ways of telling people God’s story. Those that found this difficult were encouraged to find alternative ways of telling God’s story shortly for the sake of others. We explored how to respond to being asked difficult question and the importance of really listening and digging deeper. There was such a buzz to the morning we had to skip a few parts to fit everything in. It reinforced what we had already taught, complemented what we had borrowed from other sources and stretched us to go further.

People loved being taught, the interactions we were encouraged to participate in, and the opportunity to ask question. Alex and Leone were honest and practical. People have been buzzing. We had things already in place to encourage people to consolidate what we had been doing and there have been immediate testimonies even after a couple of days – especially when two of our members had the joy of leading someone to Christ. We wanted people to me more excited, encouraged and equipped to share their faith with others and the feedback we have received is that it has done just that.

A really, really worthwhile morning.

If your church would be interested in receiving a similar day's training by Alex and Leone please contact the YBA - we'd love to help.
