Wheatley Park Baptist Church Celebrates 6 Baptisms
Sunday, 30 November 2025, will remain a landmark day for Wheatley Park Baptist Church in Doncaster. The church family gathered in strength as 107 people came together to witness something truly remarkable. For the first time in 25 years, the church saw six people step into the waters of baptism in one service, instead of the usual one baptism a year. For many, it felt like witnessing years of prayer and faithfulness burst into life all at once.
The atmosphere was full of celebration. Smiles, applause, quiet tears and heartfelt worship filled the space as one testimony after another revealed God’s transforming work. “We are simply in awe of what the Lord has done,” the leadership shared.
Worship Across Cultures
The celebration was made even richer through partnership with Romanian Gateway Church in Barnsley. Their worship group co-led the music, bringing a beautiful blend of cultures and praise. One of Wheatley Park’s elders, originally from Romania, attends Gateway monthly and has been building a growing connection between the two congregations.
Both churches are praying and discerning how God might be leading them to serve together in the future, united in a shared desire to see the Kingdom of God grow and many across Yorkshire come to faith.
Stories That Speak of God’s Grace
The diversity among those baptised was striking and deeply encouraging. Those who stepped into the waters included someone from Jamaica, a couple from Nigeria and several people from the Doncaster community. Each brought a unique and powerful testimony of God’s grace.
One man who had been an atheist was given a Bible. As he read, he began investigating whether Scripture was trustworthy and whether Jesus truly lived, died and rose again. His honest search led him to saving faith in Christ.
Another person was first welcomed into the church through a mother-and-toddler group. That simple invitation sparked a journey of spiritual searching that continued through a Christianity Explore course and eventually led them to faith.
A university student studying medicine encountered Christian faith through the Christian Union and attended an evangelistic event with a question-and-answer session. Over time this experience led them to trust Christ.
Another testimony came from someone who had faced rejection, inner turmoil and addiction. After reading alarming predictions online that the world would end in 2023, they began searching for answers. When those predictions did not come to pass, they turned to the Gospels, encountered Jesus and came to faith a year later.
Together, these six testimonies form a vivid tapestry of God’s grace, showing how He meets people where they are; through curiosity, searching, personal challenge, and community - and leads them into new life.
Signs of New Life
Alongside the baptisms, the church is celebrating wider spiritual growth. A new Saturday morning Bible study has begun, providing space for those who work during the week and offering a discipleship pathway for new believers. It has quickly become a place of encouragement and learning.
Wheatley Park Baptist Church gives all glory to God for what they describe as a “movement of grace” in their community. Their prayer is that these stories will inspire churches across Yorkshire to keep trusting, keep praying and keep expecting God to move.
