Lantern Making at Shipley Baptist Church

Artist Katie Jones writes about the lantern making sessions being organised with Iain Buglass (Church Secretary) and people from Shipley Baptist Church. The church is holding two daytime ‘Lantern Making and Chat’ workshops during their Warm Space drop-ins during October.

Local Bradford-based arts company Cecil Green Arts and the University of Bradford are joining forces to make memorial lanterns and hold conversations about issues related to grief and dying. The lanterns that are made will be used at community light parades in two local parks. (The above photograph shows a previous lantern parade.)

There will be opportunities for people to celebrate life in a large community parade in Lister Park on 30th October, and a quieter, more reflective parade where people can remember their loved ones will happen in Northcliffe Woods, Shipley on Saturday 14th November. The sessions at Shipley Baptist Church will be on 13th and 20th October from 12.30 to 2.30pm. Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to email katie@cecilgreenarts.co.uk or speak to Rev Keith Jones.
